Bulls Defeat Green Wave in AAC Women’s Basketball Championship Quarterfinals
Mar 10, 2025 | Women's Basketball
FORT WORTH – Tulane Women's Basketball finished their 2024-2025 season today after falling to the University of South Florida in the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championships. The Bulls secured a 69-59 win over the Wave and will move on in the tournament.
The Wave went 17-13 in the season and held a 9-8 conference record. Coach Ashley Langford closed out her first season with a winning record and having made it to multiple rounds of postseason play.
Kendall Sneed led the Wave in points tonight with 18 while also claiming six rebounds. Sherese Pittman got a double double, having both 11 points and 11 rebounds, which were also a team high. Sadie Shores logged 7 rebounds, her second highest of the season, second only to her performance last night against Wichita, when she claimed a career-high 8 rebounds.
South Florida was headed by Vittoria Blasigh's 16 points and Carla Brito's 17 rebounds.
USF took the first period 16-10 after a 14-0 run; Kayla Hampton closed the gap to a two-basket difference with a 3-pointer at four seconds left, ending the period 16-10. She tied her season-high eight points and two 3-pointers tonight against the Bulls and also had the third highest point total of the Green Wave.
The Bulls led for three-fourths of the second quarter, but the Wave diluted the difference to just a two point lead at 4:30, thanks to an and-one from Sneed. Kianni Westbrook came in and proved to be indispensable on defense, intercepting pass after pass. The Wave tied the game by 3:30 with a jump shot from Sneed. The Bulls, however, pulled back and finished the half 32-25.
USF had a 15 point lead during the third, but Hampton hooped another signature last-second three pointer to bring the difference to 10 and 52-42 at the end of the quarter. Both teams scored 17 points in the fourth, but the 16-10 Bulls lead after the first proved to be game deciding.
The Wave ran out the Bulls' shot clock multiple times and held USF to 34.8% game field goal percentage.
The Bulls now head to the semifinals for the tenth time in history, a league high.
