
Dean, Cheruiyot Set Program Records to Pace Wave at Bryan Clay Invitational

AZUSA, Calif. – Janae Dean and Bernard Cheruiyot led the way for Tulane track & field at the Bryan Clay Invitational this week each setting Green Wave records in their events. Dean broke her own record in the 800 meters while Cheruiyot set the program record in the 5000 meters.
On Thursday, Dean delivered another stellar performance on the track as she snapped her own Tulane record in the 800 meters crossing the finish line at 2:03.73 to finish ninth in the elite heat. She previously broke the Green Wave record this spring on March 29 at the Raleigh Relays with a time of 2:04.30.
Cheruiyot finished competition in the nightcap on Thursday by breaking the program record in the 5000 meters with a final time of 13:36.23 to finish second in the invite. The run snapped the previous record held by teammate Illia Kunin at 13:46.94 set on March 28, 2024.
In the 5000 meters men's open Jordan Bendura crossed the finish line in fifth with a time of 14:12.20.
Up next, the Wave will compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, from Thursday to Saturday, April 24-26.
