Tulane Sweeps SEISA Conference Championship

NEW ORLEANS – For the fifth consecutive year Tulane University sailing secured a sweep of the SEISA Conference Championships on the waters of Lake Pontchartrain. After claiming the women's fleet race championship on Friday, the Green Wave continued its winning ways taking the title in the women's team race championship and the open team race and fleet race championships on Saturday.
Sailors Sammie Gardner, Oakley Cunningham, Caitlin Briggs, Ava Anderson, Gabriela Vassel, Cate Anderson, Essie Clifton, and Martha Hughes delivered the first conference title of the weekend on Friday winning the women's fleet race championship.
On Saturday, the Wave kept its momentum rolling as the day started with the women's team race championship. Skippers Gabriela Vassel, Lola Kohl, Ava Anderson, Lucy Spearman, and Sammie Gardner teamed with crews Essie Clifton, Martha Hughes, Cate Anderson, Caitlin Briggs, and Oakley Cunningham to cruise to a 3-0 record and win the championship.
Next up on the water was the open team race championship where Tulane sailed to another conference title. Skippers Hamilton Barclay, Christian Ebbin, and Kelly Holthus raced with crews Matheo Capasso, Ryan Ehnot, and Sloane Mullin to post a perfect 4-0 record in the event.
In the final discipline of the championship regatta the Green Wave secured the conference sweep by 30 points in the open fleet race championship. Tulane finished with 12 total points placing first and second in every race. In the A Division, Holthus, Mullin, and Brady Starck finished in first place twice while Ebbin and Ehnot also notched two first-place finishes.
Up next, Tulane will hit the road to finish the regular season on Saturday and Sunday, April 12-13. The Wave will compete in the Thompson Trophy Team Race in New London, Connecticut, and the Truxton Umsted Trophy in Annapolis, Maryland.
