
Tulane Hosts North Texas for Sunday Matinee

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University men's basketball will aim to bounce back into the win column when it welcomes the North Texas Mean Green into Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse Sunday. The Green Wave holds an 8-3 record at home so far this season including a 1-1 in conference play.

The game between the Wave and the Mean Green is set to tipoff at 4 p.m. on ESPN2. Fans can also listen to the action live on the Tulane Sports Network from Learfield on 106.7 The Ticket with the Voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor or streaming on the Tulane Athletics App and The Varsity Network App.

This marks the seventh all-time meeting between Tulane and North Texas with the Green Wave trailing the series 2-4. The Wave lost the lone matchup between the two teams last season 66-76 in Denton, Texas, on February 8, 2025, to extend the team's losing streak to four games against the Mean Green. Tulane holds an 0-1 record in Uptown against the Mean Green dropping the only previous meeting in New Orleans 76-80 on February 28, 2024. The last time the Green Wave defeated North Texas was in the Conference USA Championships on March 12, 2014, in El Paso, Texas, by a final score of 66-61.

In its last time out, Tulane saw its five-game winning streak snapped in a 69-82 loss to UAB inside the Devlin Fieldhouse on Wednesday, January 14. The loss dropped the Green Wave to 8-3 at home this season and ended a four-game home winning streak for Tulane. Three players scored in double figures in the defeat for the Wave led by 16 points apiece from Rowan Brumbaugh and Asher Woods followed by 12 points from Tyler Ringgold.

Since joining Tulane Brumbaugh has scored in double figures in all 22 American Conference games of his career. He has tallied 20 or more points in eight of those contests including two this season - against Florida Atlantic (20) and at UTSA (23).

North Texas enters the Sunday's contest on a two-game losing streak after falling at Wichita State 67-78 on January 11 to drop to 10-7 on the season and 1-3 in league play. In true road games this season the Mean Green holds a 1-4 record including an 0-2 mark in conference while averaging just 57.2 points and surrendering 67.6 points per game in those contests.

Defense has been the key to success for North Texas so far this season. The Mean Green lead the conference in scoring defense (64.9), three-point percentage defense (28.7), and turnovers forced per game (15.88). Offensively, the trio of Je'Shawn Stevenson, Will McClendon, and David Terrell Jr. lead the offensive attack for the Mean Green this season combining for 41.8 points per game.

Following the battle against North Texas, Tulane will hit the road for a rematch with Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton, Florida, on Wednesday, January 21. The matchup between the Green Wave and the Owls is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
