Liano-Rengel, Distance Medley Relay Highlight Day One of Rod McCravy Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. āĀ The Tulane women's track and field team opened the 2026 calendar year on a high note with three top-10 and two top-five finishes during day one of the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center on Friday. Elena Liano-Rengel and the Green Wave distance medley relay quartet highlighted the day with their respective top fives.

One of Tulane's highlights closed the day with Elena Liano-Rengel shining in the 1,000 meters, placing fifth with a personal-best time of 2:50.90. Maria Alduan also ran in the race, placing 12th with a mark of 2:55.19. In the distance medley relay, the Wave quartet of Eliza Brand, Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas, Jasper Newton, and Reese Ragland shined with a runner-up result. They tallied a time of 11:55.49, finishing only behind the foursome of the host Kentucky and their time of 11:22.72.

Freshman Zaria Parker tallied a time of 7.56 in the 60 meters prelims, placing 19th overall and qualifying for the semifinals after winning her heat. Bella Carroll also ran in the prelims, posting a time of 7.96 to place 61st overall. In the semifinals, Parker recorded another 7.56 mark to place 20th overall.

In the 400 meters, Marissa Gordon notched a 57.32 to finish in 10th, marking the third top-10 finish for the Wave on the day. Rounding out the day's competitions for Tulane is the 200 meters, in which Parker led the way for the Wave with her mark of 24.72 to place 14th. Carroll was 34th with a time of 25.93.

The event concludes tomorrow with Tulane competing in four more events total, three track and one field. Sofie Groeninger is the lone Wave field competitor, participating in the shot put at 9:30 a.m. CT. At 11:00 a.m., Liano-Rengel and Newton will run in the mile. Four Tulane athletes will compete in the 300 meters at 11:20 a.m.: Carroll, Parker, Gordon, and Dumonteil Cabanas. At 12:35 p.m., Ragland, Brand, and Alduan will race in the 800 meters to round out Tulane's participation in the event.
