Salsberry’s Record, Alduan’s Win Highlight Day Two of 44 Farms Team Invitational
Apr 10, 2026 | Track & Field
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – On a weather-impacted second day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B. Cushing Stadium Friday, Tulane outlasted a weather delay and delivered multiple impressive performances. Highlighting the action were Cara Salsberry's program record in the hammer throw and Maria Alduan's victory in the 800m.
The meet featured a delay of roughly an hour-and-a-half due to lightning in the area in the afternoon. Though this forced slight changes to the schedule of the day, all events were completed in their entirety.
Today's action began with the final three events of the women's heptathlon. Sofie Groeninger entered the day ninth in the standings after her performance in the first four events yesterday. The long jump was first up today, and Groeninger delivered a mark of 5.82m to finish in sixth. The javelin followed, and she finished seventh with a mark of 36.94m. The 800m was the final event with Groeninger placing 15th behind a time of 2:29.13. Her performances today were enough to move Groeninger into eighth place on the final leaderboard with her point total of 5,264, which ties her for fourth best in program history with Jada Johnson (May 15, 2025).
Field events began for the Wave with the hammer throw, and Cara Salsberry opened with a bang for Tulane. She delivered a mark of 59.22m to set a new program record and place third overall in the event. The previous record was 58.27m, set by Jacqueline Esmay on May 13, 2018. Salsberry also competed in the discus, finishing 10th with a mark of 46.66m. In the long jump, Brianna Brand posted a season best of 5.47m to place 21st, and in the pole vault invite Presley Wolfe finished in a tie for eighth with her mark of 3.77m.
Maria Alduan was the top performer for Tulane on the track, winning the 800m with a time of 2:15.21. Eliza Brand added a top-10 finish with a 4:41.97 in the 1,500m, placing sixth. In the 400m hurdles, Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas was just outside the top 10 with her time of 1:01.88, placing 11th. A pair of Wave athletes raced in the 200m, with Zaria Parker leading the way with a clip of 23.92, placing 24th. Marissa Gordon was 60th with a time of 24.77.
The meet concludes tomorrow with the opening event starting at 10:00 a.m., the women's javelin. Tulane will also compete in the men's javelin at 1:00 p.m. and the women's pole vault at 5:00 p.m. On the track, the Wave's first event is the women's 400m, set for approximately 7:01 p.m. Tulane will also feature runners in the men's and women's 100m.
