Groeninger in Ninth Through First Four Heptathlon Events

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – On the opening day of the 44 Farms Team Invitational at E.B Cushing Stadium Thursday, Sofie Groeninger competed in the first four events of the women's heptathlon, finishing the day in ninth place with 3,156 points.
Groeninger is one of 25 athletes competing in the heptathlon, which kicked off today with the 100m hurdles. Groeninger picked up the first of her two top-10 placements with a 14.37 to finish in 10th. A pair of field events followed with the high jump next, and she placed 12th with a mark of 1.57m. She then won the shot put with a mark of 13.56m, besting the runner up by a wide margin (Cincinnati's Juliette Laracuente-Huebner, 12.92m). Groeninger polished off the day by delivering a season best of 26.40 in the 200m, giving her a total of 3,156 points to sit ninth on the leaderboard with three events to go. Laracuente-Huebner is currently atop the standings with 3,617 points.
The remaining heptathlon events will take place tomorrow beginning with the long jump at 11:30 a.m. The javelin (12:40 p.m.) and 800m (2:45 p.m.) will follow. Tomorrow will also see the beginning of the overall field and track events. Outside of Groeninger, the Wave gets going at 1:00 p.m. with the women's hammer throw. The long jump and discus will also feature Tulane athletes. On the track, action begins at 6:00 p.m. with the women's 200m. The Wave will also compete in the 400m hurdles, 800m, and 1,500m.
