THIBODAUX, La. – A contingent from the Tulane women's cross country team will be in action tomorrow morning in the Nicholls XC Invitational. The quartet of Green Wave runners will hit the course at 8:30 a.m. at Nicholls Farm.
The meet features multiple races, including junior varsity, varsity, and collegiate runs. Tulane is set to compete in just the women's 5K, which begins at 8:30 a.m. The race will feature six other regional programs, including Dillard, Jackson State, Southern, Spring Hill, Xavier-Louisiana, and the host Colonels. Live results can be found here.
Representing the Wave will be a quartet of runners: Eliza Brand, Sophia Galiano-Sanchez, Morgan Matthews, and Jasper Newton.
Galiano-Sanchez, Matthews, and Newton all put forth strong showings to open the season in the Battle for New Orleans as they each finished top 25 in the meet. Newton led the group in 18th with Galiano-Sanchez right behind in 19th in her collegiate debut. Matthews placed 25th. Galiano-Sanchez will be racing for a second-straight weekend, as she also hit the course last Friday in the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational.
Tulane will be off next week before a split day of competition on Friday, October 16. A portion of the team will head north to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Pre-Nationals while another contingent will travel west for the Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas. The Pre-Nationals is hosted by Indiana State, and the Arturo Barrios Invitational is hosted by Texas A&M. These will be the final regular season meets for the Wave before the American Cross Country Championships, which Tulane will host on Saturday, October 31, at Lake Oaks Park.
