Green Wave Survives to Extinguish Blazers
Feb 15, 2026 | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.– Tulane men's basketball (15-10, 6-6) survives to earn its second consecutive victory defeating UAB (16-10, 7-6) 55-54 in Bartow Arena Sunday afternoon. The Green Wave endured a flurry of shots to tie the game by the Blazers in the final minute but challenged every attempt to hold on to the lead and secure the win.
Â
With the victory, the Wave secured a season split against UAB and earned its first win on the road over the Blazers since February 15, 2014. The win also helped Tulane improve to 5-2 on the road this season including a 4-2 mark in league play. The one-point victory moved the Green Wave 11-3 in games decided by 10 points or less this season as well.
Â
The trio of Rowan Brumbaugh, Asher Woods, and Scotty Middleton led the offensive attack for Tulane against UAB. Brumbaugh led all players with 17 points to go with a career-high eight rebounds and four assists. During the contest the redshirt junior became the 40th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in a Green Wave uniform.
Â
Woods followed with his fifth double-digit scoring performance in the last six games as he finished with 14 points. The senior guard also added five rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals to his stat sheet. Meanwhile, Middleton rounded out the Wave's leaders by hitting four three-pointers to tally 12 points. He added a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks as well.
Â
Defensively, Tulane held the Blazers to a season-lows in points (54) and field goals made (20). The Green Wave also limited UAB to its worst shooting performance from beyond the arc in conference play holding the Blazers to just 14.8 (4-27) percent from beyond the arc.
Â
After the Wave got on the board first with a Tyler Ringgold layup, UAB answered to take the early advantage in the game. Facing a 9-13 deficit nearly eight minutes into the first half Tulane made its first push with a 16-2 run to take a 25-15 lead with 6:09 to play in the frame.
Â
The Green Wave eventually extended its advantage to as many as 15 (34-19) with 3:08 remaining in the first half. Tulane maintained its double-digit lead across the final minutes of the opening frame and hit the locker room leading the Blazers 36-26.
Â
As the second half got underway the Wave and UAB traded baskets across the first five-plus minutes of action. The Blazers refused to back down against Tulane slowly chipping away at the Green Wave's lead.
Â
The Tulane advantage was eventually trimmed to one point (48-47) with 6:55 on the clock, but back-to-back layups by KJ Greene and Brumbaugh put the Wave back up by five. However, UAB came back with another answer scoring the next five points to even the score at 52-52 with 5:13 to play.
Â
Curtis Williams Jr. broke the tie on the very next possession for the Green Wave knocking down a corner three to put Tulane back in front 55-52 with 4:49 remaining. After that bucket from Williams, the final minutes of the game became a defensive struggle for both teams. The Wave defense continued to step up time after time to keep UAB from tying the game in the final minute and secure the 55-54 road victory.
Â
Next, the Tulane will head to Denton, Texas, for a rematch with North Texas on Thursday, February 19. Tipoff between the Green Wave and the Mean Green is scheduled for 8 p.m. on ESPN2.
