
Swimming and Diving Have A Strong Third Day at the American Conference Championships

GREENSBORO, NC – Varvara Gkiouzepa Petropoulou tied for second in the 200 butterfly and the 800 free relay team placed third in their event to help lead Tulane on third day at the American Conference Championships on Friday, Feb. 20 , at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Overall Tulane is placed fifth overall with 646.5 points. On the third day of competition the program had two top three finishes, five top 10 placing and nine point-scorers. Tulane now has four medal winners through the first three days of competition.
Petropoulou tied for second in the 200 butterfly with a 1:58.61 for 27.50 points. Phoebe Johnson earned 13th in the event for 14 team points.
The squad's 800 free relay team of Lise Coetzee, Andrea Zeebe, Johnson, Rafaela Sumida finished third with a 7:16.10 for 54 team points.
Zeebe also earned 10th in the 100 back with a 54.43 for 17 team points. Marin Shimkus placed 11th with a 54.53 for 16 team points.
Ebba Holgersson took seventh in the 100 breast with a 1:01.85 for 33 team points. Paula Gaya Bisquerra took ninth with a 1:02.63 for 20 team points.
Taylor Cekay led the divers with 13th place finish in the 3m diving with 247.75. She earned 12 team points for her finish. Libby Brewer took 22nd with 237.50 points for three team points.
Next, the Green Wave wraps up competition at the American Conference Championship on Saturday, Feb. 21, starting at 9:30 a.m. with the swimming preliminaries. The platform diving preliminaries begins at 10 a.m. The finals of the platform diving are scheduled for 3:45 p.m., while the swimming finals are set for 5 p.m. The events that will be featured on the final day are the 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, platform diving, 1650 freestyle, and the 400 free relay.
