NEW ORLEANS – Tulane hosted South Alabama in its second-ever match at Goldring Tennis Center and captured a 5-2 win on Saturday in New Orleans.
Both teams are now 4-6 on the season.
Asaf Friedler and AJ Mercer, who are 3-0 in doubles this spring, picked up the first win of the day with a 6-2 triumph at No. 3. Daniel Phillips and Lance Nisbet improved to 5-2 by clinching the doubles point with a 7-1 tiebreaker victory.
The Jaguars took both ends of the singles lineup but the Green Wave won everything in between, courtesy of Hady ElKordy at No. 2, Friedler at No. 3, Alec Gaudin at No. 4 and Piotr Andrzejewski at No. 5. Gaudin and Andrzejewski won in straight sets.
Tulane hits the road next week for a pair of matches at Liberty on Friday (2 p.m.) and Old Dominion on Sunday (12 p.m.). The 59th-ranked Flames are currently 6-7, while the Monarchs are 10-4.
