Tulane Bowling Alumni Spotlight: Sofiia Druchyna
Apr 1, 2026 | Women's Bowling
Despite being one of the youngest athletics programs overall at Tulane, Green Wave bowling touts a deep, talented, and successful group of alumni. Tulane bowling will be highlighting some of its alumni over the coming months, and this effort begins with Sofiia Druchyna, who graduated in 2024 with a degree in computer science and cybersecurity. She is currently a graduate student at Princeton University.
Â
Druchyna began her career at Sam Houston State before transferring to Tulane after her freshman campaign. She chose Tulane because of the team culture and the variety of available support resources for student-athletes provided by the athletic department and university. Her favorite things about Tulane were the culture, the city of New Orleans, and the aforementioned support resources. When asked about her favorite memory from her bowling experiences, she jokingly replied the 6:00 a.m. workouts with a more serious answer of the travel.
Â
A native of Odesa, Ukraine, Druchyna accomplished the impressive feat of graduating a year early with a double major, an accomplishment amplified by the academic prowess that Tulane University carries. Even more outstanding was that she did so with a perfect 4.0 GPA. This academic success led to a plethora of honors, including the International Tulanian Academic Excellence Award, which is presented by the Newcomb-Tulane College Center for Global Education at graduation, and it is given out to "honor and applaud the outstanding accomplishments of the international community members at Tulane. Through their dedication, resilience, and academic excellence, they have exemplified the spirit of global citizenship and contributed immensely to the vibrant community at Tulane."
Â
On top of that distinguished honor, Druchyna was a back-to-back winner of the Tulane Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. She was twice a member of the Southland Bowling League's Academic Honor Roll in 2022 and 2023 before earning the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal alongside CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition in 2024.
Â
Since graduating from Tulane, Druchyna has traveled to every US state and territory. She is currently a master's student at Princeton, studying computer science. With a passion for teaching, she aims to become a professor of computer science in the future.
Â
Druchyna said that her biggest takeaway from her time as a Tulane bowler was that "no matter the challenge you are facing, everything is possible if you start believing in yourself. Pursue your biggest dreams without hesitations." In delivering a message to current and future Wave athletes, she said, "Everything takes time. Be patient, work hard, believe, and you will do great things."
