Tulane Opens Bryan Clay Invitational with Strong Distance Showing

AZUSA, Calif. – Tulane wrapped up the opening day of the Bryan Clay Invitational late last night after posting multiple top marks, highlighted by a pair of school records set by Silas Kiptanui and Blezzin Kimutai.
Kiptanui entered the weekend as the program's record holder for the men's 3,000m steeplechase, posting a mark of 8:25.21 last June. Last night he bested that mark to break his own record, delivering a time of 8:25.16 to finish third in the event.
Kimutai added her own record-breaking third-place result in the women's 10,000m with her time of 33:28.25. In the men's 10,000m, Tommy Rice recorded a top-10 by finishing in sixth. He ran a 29:12.80.
In the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Alex Sharp finished 45th with a time of 10:36.30. Allison Hall improved upon her program top-10 mark, elevating to seventh in the program's record book with a time of 10:49.69. She finished 75th. Rounding out Tulane's competitors was Rogerio Amaral, who finished 21st with a time of 29:10.35 in the men's 10,000m.
Action continues later today with day two of the event. The Green Wave contingent in Houston will also get started in the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational.
