Macias Shoots Three Under to Lead Wave in Second Round of American Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Freshman Sophia Macias made the most of moving day at the American Conference Championship as she jumped 24 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for sixth overall through two rounds. Macias carded a 69 (-3) on Tuesday to climb from 30th to sixth ahead of the third and final round of the tournament Wednesday.

As a team the Green Wave maintained its position holding seventh place on its own after posting a team score of 294 (+6) in round two. Through the first 36-holes of the championship tournament the Wave has carded a total team score of 596 (+20 – 302, 294). Tulane leads the tournament as a team with 116 total pars through two rounds and holds the best average on par 3s averaging 3.02 strokes on those holes.

Macias leads the Wave through the first two rounds of action sitting tied for sixth overall with a 36-hole score of 145 (+1 – 76, 69). On Tuesday she recorded four birdies to bring her tournament total to five which is tied for the team lead and ranks tied for 13th in the field. She has done her damage on the par 3s shooting three under par on an average of 2.63 strokes per hole which leads the entire tournament.

The duo of Francesca Pompa and Sophia Chen followed Macias in the standings ending round two tied for 16th overall with a 36-hole score of 148 (+4). Pompa posted a 75 (+3) on Tuesday after shooting a 73 (+1) on Monday. Meanwhile, Chen carded a 72 (E) in the second round to follow her round of 76 (+4) in the first. On par 4s Pompa paces the Green Wave and rates seventh in the tournament averaging 4.05 strokes while Chen leads Tulane

Gabriella Gilrowski was the next player in the standings for the Wave as she sits tied for 43rd overall with a two-round score of 155 (+11 – 77,78). Through 36 holes she is tied for the team lead with five birdies and continues to pace the team on par 5s at two under par on those holes.

Rounding out the group for Tulane was Cristina Albertazzi who ended Tuesday tied for 49th overall with a 36-hole score of 157 (+13 – 79, 78).

The Green Wave will hit the course at Southern Hills Plantation for the third and final round of the American Championship on Wednesday. Tulane will be paired with North Texas and Wichita State for round three teeing off on hole 10 beginning at 7:50 a.m. CT.
