Green Wave Sweeps North Texas for Sixth-Straight Victory

DENTON, Texas – The winning ways of Tulane volleyball (10-2, 2-0) continue to roll as the Green Wave sweep past North Texas (8-5, 1-1) 3-0 on Sunday to secure its sixth win in a row. The Wave controlled the action at the net against the Mean Green posting a .432 kill percentage as a team and a season-high 13 total blocks.

With the win, the Tulane starts American Conference play 2-0 for the first time since the 2021 season. The sweep over North Texas also marked the seventh sweep of the season for the Green Wave.

The duo of Avery Burks and Lauryn Mack led the way for the Wave offensively against the Mean Green each registering 11 kills. Four other players for Tulane also recorded multiple kills in the match including Riley Tucker with five and Charlee Solomon, Maddy McLin, and Chloe List with four each. Setting up the attack for the Green Wave was Solomon with a team-high 29 assists.

Defensively, Tulane put on a dominant performance at the net recording a season-high 13 total blocks. Tucker was credited with nine total blocks on nine block assists to pace the Wave. Meanwhile, List added six block assists for six total blocks on her stat sheet and McLin posted one solo block and three blocks assists for four total blocks.

After North Texas scored the first point of the day to open the first set the Green Wave responded with an 8-1 run to claim control and never relinquish the lead. Tulane extended its advantage to eight points at 13-5 before the Mean Green slowly started to battle back.

The lead for the Wave was eventually trimmed to 21-19, but a kill by Tucker stemmed the momentum building for North Texas. Following a Tulane timeout with a one-point lead the Green Wave forced the Mean Green into back-to-back errors to win the set 25-22.

Momentum stayed with the Green Wave to begin the second set as Tulane jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. However, North Texas did not roll over eventually climbing back to tie the set at 15-15.

The two teams traded points following the tie until the Wave surrendered three-straight points to face its first deficit of the day 17-19. Tulane was unfazed as it quickly answered with a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead 21-19. The Green Wave and the Mean Green met in a tie one more time in the set at 24-24, but consecutive kills from Mack and Tucker secured the set victory for Tulane 26-24.

In the third set the Wave and the Mean Green went back-and-forth meeting in a tie score 12 times, but only trading the lead three times. It was North Texas that eventually made the first push to put Tulane behind 15-23.

Facing its largest deficit of the day the Green Wave did not waver. Tulane mounted an impressive 12-2 run that was capitalized by a kill from Burks to come from behind and win the set 27-25 and secure the match victory 3-0.

UP NEXT
The Wave will continue its road trip to open conference play with a visit to the Memphis Tigers on Friday, October 2. The matchup between Tulane and the Tigers is set for 6:30 p.m.
