Weatherford returns to the Tulane team after helping a pair of Green Wave outfielders earn All-Conference USA honors, including C-USA Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-American Warren McFadden. His coaching at first base helped Tulane steal 69 bases and his work with the defense helped the outfield post a .991 fielding percentage. A two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Weatherford came to Tulane last season after successful coaching stints at his junior college alma mater - Arkansas-Fort Smith (formerly Westark College) - from 2003-04 and Southeastern Louisiana in 2005. With the Lions, Weatherford worked with the infielders, assisted with hitters, worked with the baserunners, coordinated all pregame preparation and helped oversee the strength and conditioning program. Under his tutelage, SLU freshman shortstop Steve Clevenger earned first-team All-Southland Conference honors, standing as the only rookie to claim first-team recognition in 2005. As a player, Weatherford epitomized the term student-athlete in two seasons at both Westark College and Arkansas. He began his career at the junior college level, and earned All-Region and All-Region Tournament honors as a sophomore in 2000. Weatherford also claimed the school[apos]s Wayne Layman Leadership Award before accepting a scholarship with the Razorbacks. At the Division I level, Weatherford played in 88 games from 2001-02 and earned the team[apos]s Lon Farrell Academic Award both seasons. As a senior, he helped lead the Razorbacks to the 2002 NCAA Wichita Regional Championship and advance to play in the Super Regionals. A native of Fort Smith, Ark., Weatherford earned his associate of arts and sciences from Westark in May 2000 and completed his bachelor[apos]s degree in education from Arkansas in May 2003. He is married to the former Tiffany Murphy of Shreveport, La. The couple resides on the Northshore and is expecting their first child in April.
