Hasani Roseby is entering her 11th season with the Tulane track and field program in 2019-20 – and first as the team's associate head coach – after an illustrious collegiate and professional career that saw her capture numerous individual and team titles while competing at UCLA (where Peterson was an assistant for a number of years) and abroad. In her time at the helm of the sprints and hurdles program at Tulane, the Green Wave have seen vast improvements in a number of events.
When Eric Peterson was filling out his coaching staff in 2009, he didn't have to look far to fill the role of assistant coach for sprints and hurdles. He hired someone who has become one of the best in the business and one he was able to see firsthand on numerous occasions during his tenure with the UCLA track and field program.
During her time with the Green Wave, Roseby has coached five All-Americans. Most recently, Jessica Duckett earned her second consecutive Second Team All-American status in 2018 in the 400 hurdles. Duckett has reached the NCAA Outdoor Regional in three seasons at Tulane and is a five-time American Athletic Conference champion.
In the 2019 indoor season, Kyah Loyd and Brandi Hughes led the Green Wave at the AAC Championship, finishing second and third, respectively, overall in the 60-meter hurdles. Loyd became the new program record-holder with a time of 8.33 seconds in the race. Tulane's 4x400 meter relay team brought home bronze medals at the event, finishing with a time of 3:42.43 to move up to seventh overall in school history.
In 2018-19, Roseby's sprinters continued to earn honors with Loyd, Hughes and Maya Harewood each nabbing All-Conference recognition. Hughes earned the distinction in the 60-meter hurdles indoors while Loyd and Harewood took the podium in the 100 hurdles and the 400, respectively. Loyd and Harewood then qualified for the NCAA East Regional outdoors.
Roseby also coached Lilla McMillan and Jasmine Blocker to All-American years in the 400 in 2016, with blocker earning that status indoors and outdoors. McMillan was the AAC's Most Oustanding Track Performer indoors and outdoors in 2016, winning five conference championships in her career and reaching the NCAA Outdoor Regionals six times.
All combined, Roseby's student-athletes at Tulane have won All-American honors five times, earned spots in the NCAA Regional 27 times, won 10 conference championships and been named All-Conference 26 times.
Prior to joining Tulane, Roseby competed on the national and international levels. The Monterey, California, native was a two-time qualifier for the US Olympic Trials, competing in the 100-meter hurdles in 2004 and the 100-meter event during the summer of 2008. She arrived on the international stage in 2004 when she competed as a member of the USA roster at the U-23 NACAC Track and Field Championships. Roseby nabbed the silver medal as a member of the US 4x100 relay team and also took home the bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles. Three years later, she won the USATF Indoor national crown, running 7.16 over 60-meters to rank second in the United States and among the top 10 in the world.
In March 2009, Roseby was a finalist in the 60-meter dash at the USA Track & Field Indoor National Championship, placing seventh, as she represented the United States at several international meets. The sprinter claimed individual titles in the 100 and 200-meter dash events for Team USA in St. Polten, Austria that season.
Roseby prepped at UCLA, where she was a three-time All-American and a member of UCLA's NCAA Division I National Championship Team in 2004. That year, she finished the campaign with a broken right hand, but still helped the Bruins to a national runner up finish in the 4x100 relay. Roseby also competed in the 100-meter hurdles and was a part of the 4x400 relay team that set a school record of 3:27.57 in qualifying. Roseby was ranked no. 14 in the US and in the top 50 in the world in the 100-meter hurdles at seasons end. For her efforts, head coach Bob Kersee honored Roseby by making her the recipient of the Gail Devers Most Inspirational Athlete Award after the 2004 campaign.
Before becoming a Bruin, the sprinter was a two-time California State Champion while at Monterey High School. During her time with the Toreadores, she earned Prep All-American honors on the track.
Roseby earned her Masters in Health and Wellness from Tulane in May of 2019 after earning her Bachelors of Arts in Sociology with a specialization in Diversified Liberal Arts from UCLA in 2005. She resides in Metairie, Louisiana.
