NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Vandarel Jones scored 21 points and David Wall added 20, including a trio of three-point goals, as Southern Mississippi defeated Tulane 72-71 Saturday in a Conference USA game.
The Golden Eagles (14-7, 2-6) came back from trailing 42-34 at halftime to hand the Green Wave its second consecutive conference loss and its first home loss in nine games following a five-game winning streak that began on Jan. 15 at Southern Mississippi.
Before Wednesday night's 31-point loss to DePaul, Tulane had been tied for first place in the CUSA's National Division. It was the third win in four games for Southern Mississippi following a four-game losing streak.
Dylan Osean led Tulane (15-6, 4-5) with 16 points, including three three-point goals, and four assists. Morris Jordan and Waitari Marsh added 12 each for the Green Wave.
After building the 8-point halftime lead, Tulane made only 39.3 percent of its field goals, while Southern Mississippi made half of its field goals. The Green Wave stayed in the game largely because of four three-point goals.
Jones was the top rebounder for the Golden Eagles with eight, while Sterling Davis nabbed 11 for Tulane.
