MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The Tulane women's basketball team outscored Memphis 9-0 over the final 2:31 to claim a 67-58 win over the Lady Tigers at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on Friday.
Tulane improved to 12-6 overall and stand at 5-1 in Conference USA play. Memphis dropped to 9-7 and are 2-3 in league action. It was Tulane's sixth straight win over the Lady Tigers dating back to the 1997-98 season.
The Green Wave led 58-52 with 5:55 remaining before Memphis used a short burst to draw even with 2:31 left in the game. After a Tulane time-out, Janell Burse hit a lay-up to give Tulane a two-point cushion before Kelly Scanlon banked in a running jumper with the shot clock running down to give Tulane a 62-58 lead with just 53 seconds remaining. Memphis failed to convert on its offensive end and Janell Burse hit a free throw to give Tulane a five-point cushion with 47 seconds left. On the Lady Tigers' ensuing possession, Burse blocked a Tiffany Adkins' attempt on the wing, grabbed the loose ball and dribbled the length of the court before she was fouled with 18 seconds left. She hit both free throws to give Tulane a seven-point lead. Memphis took one last three-point attempt, but Tulane's Kelly Nadeau, the smallest player on the court at 5-6, grabbed the defensive rebound in the lane amongst the post players. Scanlon got the outlet pass, was fouled, and hit two free throws with less than a second left to give the Wave the 67-58 victory.

Sarah Goree also added double figures for the Wave, hitting 5-of-10 attempts from the floor to finish with 12 points. She also had four assists and four steals.
Memphis led for most of the first half thanks to a 15-of-17 performance from the free throw line. The teams traded points early in the first half before the Lady Tigers scored six straight points to take a 23-15 lead with 5:59 left. The Green Wave answered with a 15-7 run to tie the score at 30-30 with 1:31 left before Memphis took a 33-30 lead into the halftime break.

The teams traded points and Memphis led 43-42 with 12:35 left when Slaughter hit a jumper to give the Green Wave a lead it would never relinquish.
Adkins led Memphis with 20 points on 5-of-16 shooting, though she was 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Patrice Boyd added nine points off the bench for Memphis, but no other Lady Tiger player scored more than six points.
