The Tulane baseball varsity squad defeated the Green Wave alumni 11-9 Saturday afternoon at Turchin Stadium. In a game that was a dogfight until the end, the varsity offense stepped up and outscored the alumni, while redshirt freshman Keith Hennegan got the win for the Wave.
The Tulane alumni came on strong and had an 8-5 lead through five innings. A three-run home run by Jason Fitzgerald and a solo homer by Michael Johns contributed to the alumni rally in the fifth. Tulane designated hitter Steve Shirley recorded a pair of doubles.
The Green Wave begins the 2001 campaign with a three-game home stand with Sam Houston State beginning on Friday, February 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
