HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) - Jeff Kelly threw for a school-record 400 yards and DaWayne Woods scored a career-best four touchdowns to lead Southern Mississippi to 59-6 victory over Tulane on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles (5-3, 3-2 Conference USA) remained in the hunt for a fifth straight bowl bid.
Tulane (3-9, 1-6) finished the season with three wins for the second straight year and set the C-USA record for most points allowed in a season with 495. The previous worst was 456 by Cincinnati in 1996.
Southern Miss scored on its first five possessions.
Woods scored on 1-, 3-, and 4-yard runs while also hooking up with Kelly on a 38-yard touchdown pass. James Walley had a 1-yard run that made it 21-0 with 53 second left in the first quarter.
Southern Miss led 42-6 at the half.
Kelly hit Rocky Harrison on a 56-yard touchdown pass and Orlando Dantzler on an 18-yard pass as Southern Miss enjoyed its best offensive output of the season. Kelly also had a 1-yard run for a score.
The Eagles outgained Tulane 512-325 in total yards and Kelly bested the 398 passing yards by Lee Roberts in 1996 against Houston.
Kelly was 23-of-31 passing before being replaced by Micky D'Angelo in the fourth quarter.
Tulane quarterback Patrick Ramsey closed his Tulane career with 29 school records, but was intercepted twice on a 19-of-33 afternoon for 170 yards.
Mewelde Moore had 135 yards rushing on 20 carries.
Moore's 262 carries for 1,421 yards were both school records and the sophomore was the first running back to gain over 100 yards on the Golden Eagles' defense this season.
