Tulane Defeats South Florida

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane (18-3, 1-0 C-USA) pitcher Matt Foster posted his second consecutive complete game in the 12-1 Green Wave win over South Florida (8-13, 0-1 C-USA) in the Conference USA opener on Friday evening.
The Green Wave ties a season high eight game win streak with Friday?s victory.
Foster (5-1) scattered six over nine innings and struck out eight. The one run scored by the Bulls was unearned.
The Tulane offense posted 11 hits, including five multi-base knocks. Junior Jake Gautreau slammed his fifth home run of the season over the right field fence. He was 2-for-4 on the evening with a double and a pair of RBI. Senior Steve Shirley went 3-for-5 and sent in two runs. Both Shirley and Gautreau scored three runs each. Andy Cannizaro?s two hits of the evening were doubles.
Starting pitcher John Vigue (1-3) got the loss for South Florida. He gave up 11 runs in five innings. Jeremy Fortner came in and pitcher three innings of solid relief, giving up only one run on one hit through three innings.
