Tulane Baseball Falls To South Florida 5-4

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (18-4, 1-1 C-USA) baseball team fell short in its ninth inning rally and dropped a close game to South Florida (9-13, 1-1 C-USA) 5-4 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls out hit the Tulane 10-5 and was the first team since UAB on May 17, 2000 to have an errorless performance against the Wave.
Each team put up a pair of runs in the second. Tulane scored on a Michael Aubrey single through the right side, followed by a James Jurries sacrifice fly.
South Florida was held scoreless by Green Wave starter Beau Richardson until the sixth inning when the Bulls posted three runs on four hits, three of which were doubles and took a 5-2 lead. Steven Blades replaced Richardson and finished the inning. Blades had a fine performance giving up just two hits in four innings of work.
Richardson (4-1) got his first loss of the season. He went five innings and gave up five runs. He struck out five.
Tulane took one final stab at USF as Jake Gautreau hit his sixth home run of the season a two run shot into left bringing the Green Wave within one run. The ninth inning magic wasn?t there for TU this afternoon and South Florida reliever David Richtberg retired the next three batters giving the Bulls a 5-4 win.
The winning pitcher was John Gorham (3-3). He went eight plus innings gave up five hits four runs and struck out seven.
Gautreau was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI.
