NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane (40-8, 17-5 C-USA) offense came alive and defeated Memphis (28-18, 12-10 C-USA) 11-3 on Friday evening.
With the victory, the Wave has 40 wins on the season. This is the sixth time in eight seasons Tulane has recorded 40 or more wins.
The Green Wave owned a 5-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. Tulane starter Michael Aubrey held the Tigers hitless through 4 1/3 innings.
Memphis scored one run in the fifth and sixth, but Tulane answered with three runs of their own in bottom of the sixth. Andy Cannizaro doubled in Matt Mann and Jake Gautreau capped off the inning with a two run home run for an 8-2 Tulane advantage.
On the evening Gautreau was 1-for-5 with two RBI. Cannizaro was 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI.
The Wave added three additional runs in the seventh. Aubrey led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field wall. Tulane held an 11-2 lead after eight innings. Memphis put up a single run in the top of the ninth but the Green Wave went on to win 11-3.
Aubrey (2-0) was the winning pitcher. He went seven innings gave up four hits and one earned run. Aubrey struck out four. At the plate he was 1-for-4 with one RBI and scored three runs.
The losing pitcher was Jason Wiedmeyer (5-6). He went six innings and gave up eight runs, only one earned.
Mann and Aaron Feldman each sent in a pair of runs.
