
Women's Basketball To Play Second Exhibition

NEW ORLEANS, La. - - The Tulane women's basketball team will play its final exhibition of the preseason, as the Green Wave will play host to cross-town rival Xavier at Fogelman Arena on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Green Wave opened the exhibition season with an 81-56 win over the Houston Jaguars last Sunday. Senior All-American Teana McKiver led the Wave with 19 points and nine rebounds in only 20 minutes of action.
"This should be an exciting game for both our players and our fans," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton said. "Plus, it will give us another opportunity to see where we stand before the season starts next week. It should be a great game for basketball fans in New Orleans."
Last season, the two teams met in an exhibition at Fogelman, with the Green Wave capturing a 74-48 win. Senior Gwen Slaughter had 14 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks, four assists and a pair of steals in the win, while Delacey Joseph added 14 points thanks to a 4-of-6 effort from behind the three-point line.
Tulane enters the 2002-03 campaign ranked in the Top 15 in a pair of preseason polls and listed among the nation's best in several others. The Wave are mentioned 12th in the Athlon Sports preseason rankings and 15th by Street & Smith's. In addition, McKiver was listed on the Street & Smith's preseason All-America team. Tulane is also listed 28th in the preseason Associated Press poll and 29th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.
Last season, Tulane posted an impressive 24 wins, the third-highest win total in school history. The Green Wave return 11 letterwinners, including four starters, from that sqaud that reached the NCAA Tournament for the eighth consecutive season. McKiver, a preseason All-Conference USA selection, led the Green Wave in scoring last season with 16.4 points per game, while ranking third nationally with a 62.3 field goal percentage.
Tulane opens the regular season next Friday, Nov. 22, when the Green Wave travel to face James Madison. The Wave's first home game is a Dec. 5 contest against Alabama State in Fogelman Arena.
