NEW ORLEANS, La. - -
The Tulane women's basketball team continues its season-opening road trip this weekend, as the Green Wave travel to Corvallis, Ore., to face Oregon State on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. CST.
The match-up is the first between Tulane and Oregon State and marks Tulane's first trip to the state of Oregon. It does mark a return to the West Coast for the Wave, who ended last season in the NCAA Tournament's second round at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. The trip to the West Coast is also a bit of a homecoming for senior Britt Themann, who hails from Bainbridge Island, Wash., which is just a few hours north of Portland.
Tulane enters the game with a 1-0 record after a 58-46 win over James Madison in the first game of the season. Guards Kelly Nadeau and Muci Haris led the Wave against JMU, scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively, while Gwen Slaughter pulled down 10 rebounds. The Wave are currently receiving votes in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls.
Oregon State is currently 1-1 after dropping a 83-70 decision to Portland on Tuesday. The Beavers opened the season with a 59-37 win over Division II opponent Western Oregon. Last season, OSU was 17-15 overall and advanced to the Postseason WNIT.
Following Friday's game, the Green Wave will face the Portland Pilots. The Wave open the home portion of the 2002-03 campaign on Thursday, Dec. 5, when the team welcomes Alabama State to Fogelman Arena.
