NEW ORLEANS, La. - Five members of the Tulane University football team were named to the All-Louisiana college football team in voting by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, the organization announced on Friday.
The Green Wave football team is currently in Honolulu preparing to play in the Con'Agra Foods Hawaii Bowl. That game will kickoff at 7 p.m. (Central) and will be televised by ESPN.
Senior Floyd Dorsey and juniors Mewelde Moore and Lynaris Elpheage each collected first team all-state recognition, while senior Seth Marler and freshman Anthony Cannon were second team selections. Marler earned second team honors as both a kicker and a punter.
Dorsey, a defensive tackle, recorded career-bests of 60 tackles and a team-best 7.5 sacks, including 19 tackles for loss. Moore posted his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season for the Wave while also leading the Wave in receiving. Elpheage, meanwhile, turned in one of the best cornerback efforts in the country this year, picking off eight passes. Dorsey and Elpheage were both first team All-Conference USA honors, while Moore was a second team all-league honoree.
Marler, who won the Lou Groza Award in 2001 as the top collegiate placekicker in the nation, took on the Green Wave's punting duties this season and excelled in both positions. He was 18-of-28 on field-goal efforts while ranking second in Conference USA in punting with a 42.7-yard average. Cannon, who finished second in LSWA balloting for Freshman of the Year, led the team with 110 tackles from his linebacker position. His tackle total ranked second in the nation among true freshman.
Tulane closed the season with a 7-5 record, the fourth time in the last six years that the Green Wave was bowl-eligible. During the six-year span since 1996, Tulane has won 39 games. That marks the most successful six-season run in 63 years.
