NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University will close the 2001-2002 men's basketball regular season with a home game against Conference USA rival Saint Louis at Fogelman Arena. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
The game will be available on the radio on WTIX 94.3 FM. Jim Freeman provides the play-by-play. All Tulane radio broadcasts are available on the internet as well, by visiting www.TulaneGreenWave.com. The game will be televised via satellite in the Saint Louis area on CCIN (Satellite coordinates: GE-3/K15).
Tulane (13-13, 5-10 Conference USA) will have either the No. 11 or No. 12 seed for next week's Conference USA Tournament (March 6-9, Cincinnati's Firstar Center). With a win over Saint Louis, the Wave will earn the No. 11 seed and will play at either 1 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A loss will put Tulane in the 12th seed, playing at either 3:30 p.m. or 9:30 p.m. Game times will not be available until Sunday afternoon, following the Cincinnati-Memphis game, which will decide first place in the league. Wednesday's 9:30 p.m. game will be televised live by ESPN2.
Saint Louis (14-15, 8-7 C-USA) is currently tied for fifth place in the league with Houston and South Florida. The Billikens are led by junior guard Marque Perry and his 15.0 points per game. He is the only player averaging double figures for the defensive-minded Billikens. Saint Louis allows just 63.1 points per game.
The Green Wave is hoping to snap a three-game losing streak and gain momentum for the postseason. Junior Brandon Brown still leads the Wave with 15.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, but last time out against TCU, junior Waitari Marsh led the way, notching 19 points with four rebounds, three assists and four steals. He also hit three-of-four three-point attempts. Marsh has 12.2 points per game on the year.
Also in double figures for the Wave are juniors Brandon Spann and Nick Sinville. Spann has 13.3 points per outing and leads the team with his 42 three-pointers. Sinville, who missed the last game due to a foot injury, is probably to play on Saturday. He has 10.4 points per game.
"We would like to create some momentum going into the conference tournament," Tulane coach Shawn Finney said. "I think Saint Louis is playing as well as anybody in the league. Marque Perry can really take you off the dribble. We have our work cut out for us and we're really looking forward to the game."
