NEW ORLEANS, La. - Eighteen games against six teams that advanced to the NCAA Regionals a year ago and three-game series against both in-state rival LSU and cross-town foe UNO highlight the 2004 Tulane University baseball schedule as announced by head coach Rick Jones announced on Thursday.
The Green Wave's 56-game regular-season slate features 31 games in the friendly confines of Turchin Stadium, single games against LSU, UNO and in-state opponent Louisiana-Lafayette at Zephyr Field in Metairie, and the Tulane will once again battle the Bayou Bengals in the final game of a three-game series in the Superdome on April 27.
"This ranks as one of the most challenging schedules we've had since I've been at Tulane," Jones said. "It features five games against teams from the Pac 10, three against Pepperdine and three against LSU. Add that to the ever improving teams of Conference USA, and this schedule becomes one that will challenge us every time out as well as make us better as a team for playing it."
In addition to the three-game series against LSU and UNO, Tulane will play non-conference weekend series at home against Texas-Arlington, Maryland-Baltimore County, Utah and Pepperdine to open the season before leaving the Crescent City for the first time to travel to Tempe, Ariz., for a three-game slate against Arizona State beginning on March 12.
Following a two-game midweek matchup with Pac-10 power Southern Cal, the Green Wave open Conference USA action at East Carolina on March 19. Tulane will also play host to league foes Charlotte, Louisville, Southern Miss, South Florida and Saint Louis, and will play road series at Cincinnati, UAB, Memphis and Houston.
In addition to the Tuesday/Wednesday matchup with USC and the three-game series against UNO and LSU, the Green Wave will play a home-and-home against Nicholls State (March 24 in Thibodaux and March 31 in New Orleans) and an April 21 matchup with UL-Lafayette at Zephyr Field.
