NEW ORLEANS, La. - Senior George Brown shattered his previous career-bests by tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Tulane University to an 80-50 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Fogelman Arena.
Tulane improved to 2-0 on the year by thoroughly dominating inside, outscoring the UAPB (0-3), 48-6, in the paint. The Green Wave opened the game by building a 16-1 advantage as the Golden Lions missed their first 10 shots of the game.
"We came out and took care of business from the start," Tulane coach Shawn Finney said. "That's what I wanted to see."
"George came out and played with confidence," Finney said. "Today, he came out and did the little things he needed to score the basketball. George was the difference. He rebounded, scored in the paint, ran the floor and was aggressive. We need to have some carryover from this game from him."
In addition to Brown's first career double-double, the Green Wave had sophomore Vytas Tatarunas tally 14 points and nine rebounds. Senior Wayne Tinsley added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, while sophomore Quincy Davis had 10 points and seven boards. Junior Ben Benfield added career-highs of four rebounds and four assists.
Pine Bluff had just one player in double figures as Billy Hall scored 13. Chris Parker added eight points and seven rebounds.
"Tulane was so much bigger and stronger than us," UAPB coach Van Holt said. "They had more points in the paint; they had 31 free throws to our 13. That's the difference right there."
For the game, Tulane shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the field, while holding the Golden Lions to 26.2 percent (16-of-61) shooting. The Wave hit 21 of its 31 free throw attempts, while Pine Bluff was 10-of-13. Tulane also dominated the glass with a 53-28 advantage.

"[In the second half], we were definitely sloppy with the ball," Finney said. "I talked to the team about rebounding and learning to play the game and not the score."
The Green Wave closed the game with senior walk-on Marc Siegel knifing through the UAPB defense for his first career field goal with 24 seconds to go.
