Tulane vs. Nicholls State Game Notes
The Tulane women's basketball team plays the second of five straight home games to close out 2003, as the Green Wave welcome in-state foe Nicholls State to Fogelman Arena on Saturday. The game will be the third Tulane basketball doubleheader this season, as the Green Wave men will face Southeastern Louisiana approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game.
Tulane enters Saturday's contest with a 3-4 record after having posted a 66-64 win over James Madison at Fogelman Arena on Thursday night. The Wave led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but had to hold of a JMU rally to claim the two-point victory. Junior Lakethia Hampton, who led Tulane with a career-high 24 points against JMU, is the Wave's top scorer and rebounder this season, chipping in 15.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest. Senior Kelly Nadeau adds 11.1 points per game and has a team-best 21 assists in seven outings.
After opening the season with a 20-point win over Louisiana College, Nicholls State has dropped six straight to stand at 1-6 on the young season. The Colonels are led in scoring by junior transfer Marneshia Bryant, who averages 10.9 points per game. She is followed closely by another junior transfer, Cristin Burdette, who chips in 10.0 points per contest. Bryant is also the squad's top rebounder, pulling down 5.4 caroms per contest.
Saturday's game will be the 46th all-time meeting between the two schools. Tulane holds a 23-12 edge in the series and has won seven straight dating back to the 1990-91 campaign. The contest will be the first between the schools since Dec. 11, 2001, when Tulane posted a 71-48 victory. Tulane used a 28-0 run that spanned both halves to claim that win.
