Tulane Track Opens Outdoor Season at UNO Invitational

Tulane University opened its 2003 outdoor track season with a strong showing at the UNO Invitational on Saturday at Tad Gormley Stadium. The Green Wave had 21 top 10 finishes, including 12 top five efforts and four first-place performances.
Sophomore Jelena Jurlina was the top Green Wave performer, winning two events and taking second in another. The Croatia native won the discus and the javelin, while taking second place in the shot put.
In addition, Carlyne Pradieu won the 800-meter run and Helmi Leppanen won the shot put.
Birka Wicke had a strong effort in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in second place to join Jurlina and Marilyn Sauls (triple jump) as second-place finishers.
