CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Tulane's Jacobo Hernandez was the lone winner for the Green Wave during the qualifying rounds for the Icy Hot ITA All-American Championships at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. The junior, who had advanced from the pre-qualifying bracket, won his first round match, but was defeated in the second round of 64.

Tulane senior Dmitriy Koch, ranked No. 20 in the nation, will be in action this weekend at the Champonships as he earned an automatic bid to the event.

Hernandez defeated Phillip Gruendler from UCLA in the round of 128, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. However, in the round of 64, he was stopped by Arkansas' Matt Roberts, 6-1, 6-2.

Green Wave sophomores Ted Angelinos and David Goulet were also defeated in the qualifying rounds, both falling during the round of 128.

In doubles play, Koch and Goulet were upended by East Tennessee State's team of Felix Insaurralde and Oscor Posada, 9-7.

The 2004 Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championship is not only the largest single tournament in collegiate tennis, with over 350 competitors, but also the first of three national championship events during the 2004-05 season at the NCAA Division I level. The showcase dates for this year's tournament are Oct. 7-10, which will feature the nation's top collegiate men's players (qualifying tournaments took place Oct. 1-6).
