Tulane Men's Tennis Wins Two Matches to Open Season

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University men's tennis team posted a pair of victories to open its dual-match spring season on Saturday at Aurora Country Club on the Westbank. The Green Wave, ranked No. 19 in the nation, defeated Southern, 7-0, in a morning match, then came back to upend Southeastern Louisiana, 6-1, in an afternoon match.
Sophomore David Goulet, who holds the No. 80 ranking in the nation, won a pair of matches at No. 1 singles. He defeated Southern's David Ensignia, 6-2, 6-0, then held off Olivier Nussbaum from Southeastern, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Senior Dmitriy Koch, the Green Wave's top-ranked player at No. 59 in the nation, also picked up a pair of victories. He defeated Southern's Gregory Pipkins, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3 singles; then playing at No. 2 against the Golden Lions, he had a 7-5, 6-2 win over Julian Lousao.
Junior Jacobo Hernandez and sophomore Alberto Sottocorno also posted two singles victories on the day.
In doubles action, Tulane's 54th-ranked duo of Hernandez and sophomore Ted Angelinos cruised to a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles. Kock and Sottocorno won both of their matches at No. 1 doubles.
The Green Wave is back in action next Sunday with another two-match day. At 9 a.m., the Wave hosts Prairie View A&M, followed by a 2 p.m. match against Texas Southern. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Goldring Tennis Center.
