NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Tulane University men's tennis team dropped just one set in two matches on Sunday at the Goldring Tennis Center, cruising to 7-0 shutout victories over Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern.
Tulane, which holds the No. 19 ranking in the nation, opened the day against Prairie View, defeating the Tigers handily before taking on Texas Southern in an afternoon match. It is the second weekend in a row that Tulane has picked up two victories on the same day.
Junior Jacobo Hernandez, sophomores David Goulet, Ted Angelinos and Alberto Sottocorno and freshman Jonah Kane-West each picked up two singles victories on the day. Senior Dmitriy Koch, Tulane's top-ranked player at No. 59 in the nation, only played one match, but cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 white-washing of TSU's Martin Knobloch at No. 1 singles. Freshman Danny Levy earned his first collegiate dual-match victory in the win over Prairie View.
In doubles action, Koch and Sottocorno teamed up for a pair of victories at No. 1, while Hernandez and Angelinos were also double winners in doubles.
Next weekend, Tulane is in action at the Northwest Shootout in Seattle, Wash., where it will face Ohio State, Minnesota and Washington. Ohio State is ranked No. 11, while Washington is No. 21 and Minnesota is No. 44.
