TULSA, Okla. - Tulane University earned a hard-fought victory in men's tennis action on Sunday as the 16th-ranked Green Wave defeated No. 48 Tulsa, 4-3, on the road at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Tulane (2-1) narrowly won the doubles point, which proved to be the difference as the teams split the six singles matches. The Green Wave's Michael Kogan and Jacobo Hernandez dropped their match at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, but Goran Vasiljevic and David Goulet won at No. 3 to even things up. Dmitriy Koch and Theodoros Angelinos then wrapped up the point with a big 9-8 victory at No. 2.
In singles action, Kogan suffered his first loss of the year at No. 1, but wins by Koch, Goulet and Hernandez provided the margin of victory. Koch was playing his first singles match of the year after battling injuries.
Four of the singles matches went to three sets as the two teams were very evenly matched throughout.
Tulane returns to action next weekend hosting UNLV and SMU on Saturday and Sunday at the Goldring Tennis Center.
