
Green Wave Wins C-USA Men's Tennis Shootout

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University captured the title at the Conference USA Men's Tennis Shootout on Sunday, defeating USF, 4-0 at the Goldring Tennis Stadium. The Shootout is part of a two-site conference weekend featuring all 12 league teams. Six played in New Orleans and six played in Fort Worth.
Tulane, ranked 45th in the country, wrapped up the New Orleans title, with an upset of 29th-ranked USF.
The Green Wave opened the match with an exciting doubles victory. After Jacobo Hernandez and Albert Sottocorno were defeated at No. 3 doubles, 8-2, Michael Kogan and David Goulet picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2, Tulane's Dmitriy Koch and Goran Vasiljevic fell behind early, but rallied for an 8-6 win and the key opening point.
Tulane quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead when Sottocorno cruised to a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Matias Sigal at No. 6 singles. Kogan, who is ranked No. 11 in the country, added a third point with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles over Uli Kiendl. The Wave wrapped up the match when freshman Ted Angelinos won at No. 3, 6-4, 6-4, over Renato Silveira.
In the day's first match, UAB defeated Memphis, 4-2, in the consolation round.
Tulane returns to action on Friday afternoon, hosting Southern Miss at 3 p.m.
