
Tulane Men's Tennis Tops N.C. State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tulane University opened action at the Blue-Gray Men's Tennis Classic on Thursday afternoon with a solid 4-1 victory over N.C. State at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center. The Blue-Gray Classic is one of the nation's most elite regular-season dual-match tournaments. The 16-team tournament features 14 nationally-ranked teams, including 10 teams ranked in the top 50.
The Wave advances to battle No. 27 Mississippi State on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
Tulane (8-4) opened the match by dropping the doubles point to N.C. State (4-7). However, the 40th-ranked Green Wave rallied to win four straight singles matches to wrap up the victory.
Tulane won the match with strong top and bottom play. Senior Michael Kogan, who is ranked No. 9 in the nation, had a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles, while 72nd-ranked Dmitriy Koch cruised to his team-best eighth win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Then the Wave's fifth and sixth singles players also earned wins. Alberto Sottocorno posted a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Jacobo Hernandez registered a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6.
