
Green Wave Upsets No. 27 Mississippi State

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Tulane University avenged an early season loss to Mississippi State by defeating the Bulldogs, 4-2, to advance to the semifinals of the Blue-Gray Men's Tennis Classic on Friday afternoon at the Lagoon Park Tennis Center. The Blue-Gray Classic is one of the nation's most elite regular-season dual-match tournaments. The 16-team tournament features 14 nationally-ranked teams, including 10 teams ranked in the top 50.
Mississippi State had defeated Tulane, 4-3, on Feb. 14 in Starkville.
Tulane (9-4) advances to play No. 11 VCU on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
The Green Wave held a slim 3-2 advantage when freshman Ted Aneglinos clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Luiz Carvalho at No. 3 singles.
Tulane had dropped the doubles point to fall in an early 1-0 hole, however, ninth-ranked Michael Kogan posted his second win of the year against 13th-ranked Romain Ambert. Kogan registered a 6-4, 6-0 win against the Bulldog veteran.
The Wave also picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as freshmen Alberto Sottocorno and Jacobo Hernandez both won. Sottocorno had a 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 win at No. 5, his sixth straight singles victory. Hernandez was a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.
