LUBBOCK, Texas - The Tulane University women's basketball team has secured its second guard of the early signing period with the signing of Tia Jackson of Houston, Texas, to a National Letter of Intent head coach Lisa Stockton announced on Monday.
Jackson, a 5-8 guard that is ranked as the 26th-best player in Texas by TexasHoops.com, currently attends Crosby High School, the same school as former Green Wave player Destiny Drew. A 2005 Pre-season Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Team selection, Jackson was an all-state honoree as a junior, was the 4A district MVP and was named to the Houston Chronicle All-Greater Houston Team. A two-time all-region and a three-time all-district pick, Jackson was selected as the district 4A offensive MVP as a sophomore.
Her AAU team, the Houston Hotshots, won the BCI/AAU national championship in 2004-05 and advanced to the AUU title game that same year.
"Tia is a very versatile player that can play either the one, two or three spot," Stockton said. "She has been on some great AAU teams and has the potential to be very successful at the college level. She is a solid rebounder and also has a scorer's mentality."
Stockton's Green Wave plays its final exhibition on Monday night at West Texas A&M before opening the regular season on Friday, Nov. 18 against Howard. Tulane will serve as the "home" team against Howard in a game played at Lubbock Christian University while Tulane's true home opener is slated for Dec. 18 against Central Connecticut State in Fogelman Arena.
