BATON ROUGE, La. - Tulane's distance runners paced the Green Wave at the LSU Twilight Invitational at the Carl Maddox Field House on Friday evening. Junior Lisa Green took first place in the mile run while freshman Aubrey Phillips won the 3,000-meter run.
Green registered a personal record for the second straight week in the mile, registering a time of 5:10.50. In addition, freshman Rachel Bryan and senior Sarah Bumby had personal-bests in the mile. Bryan covered the distance in 5:21.40, while Bumby notched a time of 5:46.35.
Phillips, a native of Baton Rouge, blazed to victory with a time of 10:32.04 in the 3,000.
Tulane's 4x400 relay team of Gloria Asumnu, Shanon Beelendorf, Angel Dooley and Tahira Wiggins registered its best time of the season at 3:49.51 to win that event as well.
Seniors Helmi Leppanen and Jelena Jurlina finished second and third, respectively, in the shot put while junior Marilyn Sauls was sixth in the long jump with a season-best effort.
Next up for the Green Wave is the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships which begin Friday in Houston.
