Tulane Tops USF For C-USA Shootout Title

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane wrapped up first place in the New Orleans bracket of the Conference USA Shootout in men's tennis action on Sunday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Complex. The 28th-tanked Green Wave defeated No. 54 USF, 4-0. The Wave had defeated UAB, 4-0, on Saturday.
Tulane (8-3) won the doubles point, then snagged three singles victories to clinch the title.
Freshman Jonah Kane-West posted a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles to give the Green Wave a 2-0 advantage, and the junior Jacobo Hernandez won a second-set tiebreaker to clinch the third point with a 6-3, 7-6 victory at No. 3 singles. As the remaining matches appeared headed for third sets, sophomore David Goulet rallied for a 7-6, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles over Federico Barton to clinch the match victory.
In doubles action, Tulane had victories at No. 1 and No. 2 while leading at No. 3. Senior Dmitriy Koch and sophomore Alberto Sottocorno posted an 8-4 victory at No. 1, while sophomore Ted Angelinos and Hernandez registered an 8-5 win at No. 2.
Tulane returns to action next Saturday, hosting Northwestern at 1 p.m. at the Goldring Courts. Admission is free.
