Green Wave Wins Eighth Straight Men's Tennis Match

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University has been the top program in Conference USA, capturing four league titles in the last eight years. The University of Tulsa will join Conference USA next season. The Green Wave, which is ranked No. 21 in the nation, showed its future league foe that it does not plan on giving up its hold on the league, as it defeated the Hurricane, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center.
Tulane, which has now won eight straight matches, improves to 14-3 on the year. Tulsa, which holds the No. 55 ranking in the nation, drops to 11-7.
After capturing the doubles point, Tulane quickly rattled off three straight-set victories in singles to capture the dual-match triumph. Junior Jacobo Hernandez provided the clincher, posting a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Federico Soriano at No. 4 singles, for a 4-0 Green Wave lead.
Senior Dmitriy Koch had opened the singles scoring with a quick 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Ted Angelinos followed with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3.
Tulane added its fifth point as sophomore David Goulet posted a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. The Wave lost at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Koch and sophomore Alberto Sottocorno improved to 13-2 with an 8-4 victory at No. 1. Goulet and freshman Jonah Kane-West also won, notching a 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Tulane returns to action next week, playing at Arizona State on Wednesday. The Wave faces Georgia Tech on Thursday in Tempe.
