NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane University had its Senior Day ceremony for men's tennis on Sunday afternoon and the lone senior on the team, Dmitriy Koch, gave the fans a near-perfect performance in the final home match of his career at the Goldring Tennis Center. Koch posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles to lead the Green Wave to a 4-0 victory over No. 42 UL-Lafayette.
Tulane (18-4) struggled in doubles to open the match, but then rallied to earn the point. The Ragin' Cajuns won at No. 1 doubles and led at both No. 2 and No. 3. However, Jacobo Hernandez and Ted Angelinos battled back for an 8-6 win at No. 2, leaving the point in the hands of David Goulet and Jonah Kane-West at No. 3. After fending off multiple match points, the Green Wave duo won the tiebreaker, 7-4, to clinch the 9-8 victory and the doubles point.
Koch quickly dispatched his foe at No. 1 singles for a 2-0 Wave advantage and then Alberto Sottocorno posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles. Goulet clinched the victory with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.
Tulane has now won 12 of its last 13 matches to climb to No. 17 in the national rankings. The Green Wave will close the regular season on the road at No. 16 LSU on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The Conference USA Tournament begins April 21 in Louisville, Ky., as Tulane will look for its fifth championship under head coach Robert Klein. The winner of the C-USA Tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament; the Wave has advanced to the NCAAs eight straight years.
