NEW ORLEANS, La. - Greetings Green Wave fans. Welcome back after another exciting weekend of baseball here in New Orleans. Well, it was exciting when we were actually able to play. The rain was ridiculous last weekend, but that didn't stop us from sweeping through the New Orleans regional to advance to this weekend's nationally televised Super Regional against the Rice Owls.
Leading up to the weekend, we knew that it was going to be a very tough regional to come out of. We felt that Louisiana-Lafayette was a very tough thee seed, along with Alabama as a strong two-seed, and opening with Southern - a four-seed that is accustomed to winning. There were a lot of combined regular-season wins in our part of the bracket. I was extremely happy with the way we played against a strong Alabama club out of the SEC, especially with how we were able to wrap up the regional win with two straight wins against them.
Talent and drive played a big part in the victories, but I know I speak for the team when I say that the fans played just as big of a part. We couldn't believe how many of you guys stuck out the hours of continued rain delays to support us last weekend. You guys were incredible and it definitely fueled us late in the games against the Tide.
We also want to thank all of the people that helped to get the field playable for us to even get out there. After that rain on Monday, many people didn't think there was any possible way we'd even be playing on Tuesday, much less Monday night. It was incredible how we were able to pull that off, but it really didn't surprise me. The support that our Grounds Krewe has for our team is incredible. Then, you walk out on the field and see anybody and everybody working together just so we could get the game in that night. It was an incredible feeling and I was glad that we were able to get that win Monday night to reward all of the hard work.
Well, we just finished practice here at the field, getting ready for this weekend's games. It's so exciting to think that we are two games away from Omaha, our next goal. We know that the games will definitely be the most challenging ones of the year. I hope to see you guys out at Turchin Stadium this weekend and help get us to Omaha. See you at the field. Until next time...
Roll Wave,
Tommy
