
Baseball Falls In Friday Series Opener 7-3 to UTSA

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (21-22, 7-9 American) lost the team's second straight game in falling in the series opener by a 7-3 score to visiting UTSA (28-13, 11-5 American) on Friday evening, April 24, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Tulane's two relief pitchers held UTSA hitless in 6.1 innings after the Roadrunners struck for seven runs in the first three innings.
Trey Cehajic (2-5) allowed eight hits and seven runs in 2.2 innings in taking the loss. He also walked three and struck out one. LuisPablo Navarro threw 4.1 scoreless inning with four walks allowed and six strikeouts. Jacob Moore had a pair of scoreless innings with a strikeout to close things out.
Four different Green Wave players total two hits each. Kaikea Harrison tallied a pair of hits and an RBI. Tye Wood had two hits. Jason Wachs picked up two hits and a walk. Matthias Haas recorded two hits. Trent Liolios walked and scored a run. James Agabedis had a hit and an RBI. Hugh Pinkney walked plus scored a run and had a hit. Nate Johnson scored a run and had hit.
Connor Kelley (4-1) earned the victory with 5.2 innings out of the bullpen with six strikeouts.
UTSA scored first on the two-run home run from Lane Haworth in the opening frame.
The Roadrunners added five runs to the lead in the third, 7-0, on the RBI double from Andrew Stucky, a sacrifice fly from Cade Sadler, an RBI single from Jordan Ballin, an RBI double from Aidan Eschelman, and a bases loaded walk to Haworth.
The Green Wave broke through for two runs in the fourth on an RBI double from Agabedis that saw a second run score on the play on the throwing error from the UTSA right fielder.
Tulane drew a run closer, 7-3, in the ninth on a Harrison single up the middle in what would be the final margin of defeat.
Next, Tulane plays the second game of the series against UTSA on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium starting at 6:30 p.m.
