
Big First Inning Leads Baseball to 8-2 Saturday Loss to UTSA

NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane baseball team (21-23, 7-10 American) saw UTSA (29-13. 12-5 American) scored six runs in the opening inning in earning an 8-2 victory on Saturday night, April 25, on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium.
Jake Toporek (1-4) started for Tulane and surrendered six runs while only being able to record one out in the opening inning in taking the loss. Blaise Wilcenski threw 4.1 effective innings in relief with six hits and two runs allowed while striking out three. Julius Ejike-Charles tossed an inning with two strikeouts, a hit and walk allowed. Caden Tarango threw 2.1 scoreless with three strikeouts. Michael Devenney closed things out with a scoreless ninth inning with two strikeouts. In the first two games of the series, Tulane's bullpen has thrown 15 innings and surrendered just two runs.
Jason Wachs and Trent Liolios each had a pair of hits and scored a run in the game to help lead the offense. James Agabedis knocked in both runs with his single. Jack Johnson tallied a hit and walked. Tanner Chun, Brett Rowell, Kaikea Harrison, and Hugh Pinkney all drew a walk.
UTSA's Conor Myles (7-1) earned the victory with six scoreless inning with just three hits allowed.
The Roadrunners started the game with six runs in the opening frame. Caden Miller began the game with a solo home run. Three hits later, Christian Hallmark followed with an RBI bases loaded infield single. Cade Sadler unloaded the bases with a grand slam to give UTSA a sizable advantage.
UTSA added a pair of runs to the advantage, 8-0, in the fifth inning on the two-run blast by Diego Diaz.
The Green Wave broke through for two runs in the eighth inning on Agabedis' two-out two-run single to right field to put the final deficit at 8-2.
Next, Tulane plays the final game of the series against UTSA on Greer Field at Turchin Stadium starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday, April 26
