Hello Green Wave Fans!
Welcome to another year of Tulane Baseball. It has started off to be a great one. As you all know this past weekend we managed to win two out of three games against three very tough Texas opponents at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park. We opened the season Friday with our old conference rival, TCU, and fell just short of our first win. It was a tough loss for us, and we knew that we would bounce back the next day against Texas Tech.
The Tech game was a very special one to us. As most of you know, we spent the entire fall semester at Texas Tech after Hurricane Katrina caused us to evacuate the New Orleans area. While we all wish the storm did not hit us the way it did, the semester at Texas Tech was a great experience for a lot of us, and we were very grateful that Tech opened their doors to us. Everyone at the university took us in and provided us with so much. At the beginning of the game the seniors presented the Tech baseball team with a banner thanking them for all of their hospitality. It was a wonderful experience for all of us, and it made us closer to each other as a team. The game itself was very intense, but we managed to get a win. We will forever be indebted to them for what they did for us.
Sunday's game against Texas was one a bunch of us have been waiting a long time for. There are 10 players on our team from the state of Texas, and we all remember what happened when we played them last year. Texas seems to have had our number for many years, and by many I mean 96 years. The last time we beat Texas was in 1910. It did not take a whole lot of motivation the night before to get the team ready for the Longhorns. Everyone knew that we had business to take care of and that attitude carried over into Sundays 4-2 win. It was a great win to cap off the weekend.
Now we are looking forward to our next game against McNeese State on Tuesday at Zephyr Field. It will be the first home game of the 2006 season, and we hope that we can get as many of you fans out there as possible. We won't be playing in Turchin Stadium this year, but now we can fit about ten thousand more of our great fans into Zephyr Field. I am looking forward to seeing you guys out there.
Roll Wave,
Billy
