Baseball Loses 11-3 Friday Road Conference Contest to FAU

BOCA RATON, FL – The Tulane baseball team (20-19, 6-7 American) lost an 11-3 road  conference game to Florida Atlantic (18-19, 5-8 American) on Friday night, April 17. Tulane allowed eight runs over the final three innings in taking the loss.
Trey Cehajic (2-4) started for Tulane and allowed four runs in five innings on five hits and four walks. He also struck out five. LuisPablo Navarro surrendered a run in his 0.1 of an inning with two walks. Julius Ejike-Charles struck out two men in his 1.1 innings but also surrendered a pair of runs. Jacob Moore could not retire a man before allowing three runs on two hits in the seventh inning. Caden Tarango closed out the game with a run allowed in 1.1 innings on three hits while striking out a man. The five Tulane pitchers combined for eight strikeouts but also walked nine and hit three batters.
Jason Wachs, Matthias Haas and James Agabedis all had two hits. Wachs scored a pair of runs. Haas plated two runs. Agabedis drew a walk and scored a run. Tye Wood walked twice plus had a hit and an RBI. Nate Johnson had a hit. Kaikea Harrison drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. The Tulane offense was only 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position in the game.
James Litman (6-3) earned the victory for the Owls in throwing six innings with one run allowed on three hits while striking out three.
FAU scored first with three runs in the third inning on Nick Romano's three-run blast after the first two batters walked to start the frame.
Tulane answered with a run in the fourth inning, 3-1, on a Haas base hit through the right side.
The Owls added a pair of runs to the advantage in the sixth inning, 5-1, on a solo home run from John Martinez and a bases loaded walk by Romano.
Tulane chopped away with a run in the seventh, 5-2, on Wood's RBI double to score a hustling Agabedis all the way from first.
FAU broke the game open with five runs in the seventh, 10-2. John Martiez stole home for the first tally. Romano then cleared the bases with a three-run double. He was followed by a Michael Perazza RBI double.
The Green Wave answered with a run in the eighth inning, 10-3, on a Haas RBI double.
The Owls finished the game off with a run in the bottom of the frame on a Martinez double.
Next, Tulane plays the second game of the series against the Owls starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 18.
