GAME 3: (8) TULANE 64, (9) MARSHALL 58
- Tulane advances to the quarterfinals to face No. 1 seed Memphis on Thursday at 6 p.m.
- Marshall led at the half by the score of 37-32, scoring more points in the half than it did in the entire game in the only previous meeting between the two schools. Tulane defeated Marshall, 61-36, in New Orleans earlier this year.
- Tulane forward David Gomez recorded a double-double, the first of the tournament, with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
- The Green Wave placed three players in double-digit scoring, led by Gomez's 21 points. Quincy Davis added 17 and Donnie Stith chipped in with 13 in the winning effort.
- Tulane established itself inside and managed to out-score Marshall 44 to 20 in the paint. The Green Wave also held a 41 to 37 advantage in rebounding. Tulane also recorded eight blocked shots in the contest - led by David Gomez's three
- The Thundering Herd managed to connect on only two of 18 three-point attempts in its regular season loss at Tulane, but reversed its fortunes in the first half of its first round contest with the Green Wave. Marshall hit 7-of-15 three point attempts in the first half. However the Herd managed to hit only one three pointer in the second half (1-of-12).
- Tulane limited Marshall to 20.7% shooting in the second half.
- Marshall (12-16) was led in scoring by center Mark Patton's 15 points. Thundering Herd freshman guard Markel Humphrey just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds, while Joe Miles added 11 points for the Herd.
- This marks the first time since 2000 that the first three games of the C-USA tournament have all been decided by single digits.
